Classroom Management

Prevention:

•Co-create class rules with students and explicitly teach roles and responsibilities.

•Co-create class transitions and procedures with student input.

•Create a strong classroom community which fosters collaboration.

•Instruct and model social emotional strategies.

•Teacher and student models of expectations.

Reinforce Expectations:

•Individual: Positive frequent feedback based on specific expectation or strategy the student is using.

•Group: Celebrate collaboration efforts with table or class points with celebration(s) based on student input.

•Beyond the classroom: Share celebration and positive feedback with school and guardians/families.

Differentiation:

•Based on needs of the whole child, some students may need individualized support or a behavioral plan to need and meet classroom expectations.

Individualized plan: With support from the specialist(s) and family/guardians, create a behavioral plan based off students interests and needs

Classroom Community

I plan to build a positive classroom community by working with my students to create class rules. It is beyond important that my students feel they have a voice and agree to better our classroom environment. I will hold weekly meetings where we can touch base with each other on how we are doing and what we can do to complete our goal. The class will have a shared goal that when achieved, will be a reward. Throughout the week students who are setting good examples will receive shout outs or compliments to reinforce that desired behavior.

Building Relationships

In any classroom, building a relationship with each individual student is essential. Due to the fact my student teaching placements were only 8 weeks each, I had to build the relationship quickly. I did this by:

•Walking around the room as much as possible

•Learning each student's name before my first day was over.

•Learning how each student liked to learn and what they felt comfortable doing.

•Learning their language.

•Getting on their level to talk to them.

•Sharing information about myself when appropriate.
